| Record and develop the rich tradition in Irish music and song. |
The recording of local musical talent has become much more accessible since the opening of Connemara Community Radio’s studio on Inishbofin. Radio volunteers on the island have captured many fine traditional sessions for broadcast on Connemara Radio and in doing so are creating an archive of local musical talent that will be accessible to future generations
The Board through the CDP will be examining the possibility of professionally recording the varied range of local talent on the island from the modern musicians to the old traditional musical styles.
The Board through the CDP will continue to provide as much support as possible to the local studio. |
Continue to encourage young Island musicians to use the Islands facilities and record their material and to promote the Islands traditional music scene, especially during the tourist season.

The Development Company has through the CDP received funding from the Heritage Council to bring to completion one of our Heritage projects. The ‘Barking Pan’ project is the restoration of an area of the Island which was used by the fishermen to ‘bark’ their nets (soak them in a tar like substance to prolong there life at sea) and is a very important part of the Islands maritime history. This project when finished will be a major tourist attraction on the Island.
