Inishbofin ‘Off The Rock’ Experience

On February 28 2014 Inishbofin Island will hold a concert Kelly’s Bar, in the heart of Galway City, where Inishbofin’s finest musicians and guests will get together to bring the very best of Island Music Sessions to the mainland.
The Inishbofin Experience is the first island session of the year and gives all those non-islanders an opportunity to experience the craic of Inishbofin off season and on the mainland. This concert gives everyone the chance to experience Inishbofin without having to leave the mainland!
Inishbofin Arts Festival
2 - 4 May 2014
On the weekend of May 2 - 4 Inishbofin celebrates thirty seven years since the first ever Arts Festival was held on the Island. Set on the stunningly scenic and historic backdrop of Inishbofin, this Arts Festival is a colourful and eclectic mix of music, visual art, craft, heritage, dance, creative workshops and demonstrations, and many fun family activities.
The Inishbofin Arts Festival has a programme of quality arts events, exhibitions and activities that showcase the work of both local and visiting artists and engages with the wider arts scene for the cultural and social benefit of the community on Inishbofin.
The 2014 festival will include: exhibitions by local and visiting visual artists; a festival launch with local musicians and dancers; workshops for adults and children; theatre productions and more! These events will be alongside three larger scale music concerts to be held on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Keep an eye on the wwebsite - acts will be announced soon!
Inishbofin Walking Festival

Following last year’s hugely successful walking festival, Inishbofin Island is excited to host yet another walking festival from the 23rd to the 25th May 2014. When you visit Inishbofin Island you will experience the Atlantic and walk along the Western Coast of Europe. You can enjoy the friendly and relaxed pace of Island life during this activity packed Walking Festival. Enthusiastic, professional and local guides will share their vast knowledge of local folklore, history, heritage and ecology with you.
It is the perfect playground for nature lovers who want to explore the microcosm that is Inishbofin; the Island provides a wealth of varied habitats, from a vast array of flora and to the mighty whales and dolphins of the sea.
Featured walks lead to panoramic views of neighbouring Islands as well as the main land, and to Inishbofin’s historic and varied Iron and Bronze Age landscapes with mill stones, partitions and evidence of round stone houses, Iron Age fort ruins, picturesque beaches and famine roads, and St Colman’s 14th century Chapel and lough. All this is alongside award winning beaches, green roads, bog roads and laneways.

The Inishbofin Regatta will take place on Sunday, August 17th 2014! We look forward to another great day of Currach racing, an opportunity to celebrate the skill and expertise of local and visiting boatmen. Watch them carefully navigate their way round the harbour in a number of competitive races: this year we can expect a mixed doubles race, a men’s four oar race and a men’s six oar race. Afterwards you can relax in any of the island’s establishments and embrace the post race atmosphere.
Inishbofin Set Dancing and Trad Weekend

This annual festival is emerging as the perfect way to wrap up the end of summer and embrace the winter. The Inishbofin Set dancing and Trad Weekend has proven to be an impressive occasion resulting in Inishbofin overflowing with talent in the shape of dancers, musicians and artists alike. Building on the exceptional success of the last four years, the fifth annual Inishbofin Island Set Dancing & Trad Weekend will no doubt be another successful year!
The Inishbofin Set dancing and Trad Weekend will give dancers who used to set dance years ago, as well as the younger generation of learners, the knowledge of set dancing and the confidence to get up and put what they learn to practice. The weekend will also highlight how set dancing plays a distinctive role in reviving the ongoing vibrancy of the artistic life on Inishbofin - which includes the invaluable contribution of the older generation of islanders in passing on the ‘Inishbofin Half Set.’
The weekend will run from Friday to Sunday evening and will see a wealth of entertainment through song and dance. A full itinerary for the weekend will be available soon so watch this space!
Bia Bofinne - A Taste of Inishbofin

Held over the first weekend of October, ‘Bia Bofinne – A Taste of Inishbofin’ celebrates all things local, with a focus on traditional food, arts and crafts from this exceptionally beautiful part of the country.
With great events such as shoreline foraging, fish filleting, and butchery as well as numerous cookery demonstrations with chefs from all over the country it will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about new cooking styles, foraging techniques and even lesser known ingredients!
