‘The Barber of Belcoo’

A play by John McManus

The Barber of Belcoo is a story about one woman’s return to her native place. Forty years after leaving Fermanagh, Angela Maguire has returned and taken a job “lowering ears” in Belcoo. Her relations are all dead, the home place is a ruin and she never had any human friends here in the first place so what reason did she have for coming home? The most delicious reason of them all: revenge.

The shadows of the past have a very long reach but she reasons that “Everybody needs a haircut at some point.”
